Erich Rohde GmbH has a long company history to look back on: It all began with the founding of the Rohde tannery in 1862, and culminated in 2008 with the renaming that transformed the family company Erich Rohde into Rohde GmbH.  We are on a growth course and prepared to pursue our mission full steam ahead in the 21st century: Comfortable footwear for you, always and everywhere.

Rohde at a glance

1862 The Rohde tannery was founded in Guben (Brandenburg)
1926 Erich Rohde takes over the shoe factory that has by now evolved from the tannery
1947 The limited partnership Erich Rohde KG is founded and produces shoes from scrap materials
1948 The first of our own production facilities is established; to this day, Rohde remains the company that itself produces the most shoes in Germany.
1960 Rohde expands and establishes subsidiary plants in Hallein (Austria), Immichenhain, Borken and Schrecksbach (Hesse)
1965 Company founder Erich Rohde dies, the company is taken over by its only partner Friedrich W. Schmitt
1975 Inauguration of a new production facility in Maria da Feira (Portugal). Thus Rohde expands beyond the borders of the German-speaking world for the first time
1986 The new administration building in Schwalmstadt becomes the headquarters of Erich Rohde KG
1988 The robot-controlled sole assembly line is introduced
1989 The computerized construction and manufacturing facility is introduced
1996 Rohde KG takes over the license for development and production of the shoe collection for the French lifestyle brand Daniel Hechter
1999 Commissioning of a new Rohde Shoes creative center
2004 Entry into the Eastern European market
2008 Erich Rohde KG becomes Erich Rohde GmbH, with a new management team and a forward-looking, innovative business strategy
